Getting Fuel To The Equipment On Your Job Site When Necessary

Posted on

Heavy equipment, agricultural machines, and large equipment that is hard to move over public roadways often present a challenge when it is time to fuel them. Finding a way to fill the fuel tank can mean bringing the fuel to the machines, and onsite diesel fuel delivery is often the best solution for large operations that use a lot of diesel daily.

Fuel Delivery

There are several options when you need onsite diesel fuel delivery for your equipment on a job site or farm. You can fuel the equipment from a truck at the beginning of the day, but that means having fuel delivery daily. In some situations, that may be the only solution available, but it can be less efficient than storing the fuel on-site and filling equipment as needed.

The other option is to set up a temporary fuel storage tank for operators to use when their equipment needs fuel. A fuel tank can come with some challenges and may require some permitting and setup that makes it less appealing.

However, if you are going through a lot of fuel because the property is under heavy development, you may want to take the time to consider a storage and fueling location on the site.

Fuel Use

When buying diesel fuel for your job site, it is crucial to discuss the type of fuel you need with the diesel fuel delivery service before they bring it to the site. Heavy equipment used off-road can use off-road diesel fuel that contains minimal additives and fewer taxes on it, so it is cheaper to purchase and run in your heavy equipment.

Off-road fuel can not be used in trucks and equipment that are working on and off the highway, but for any machine used only at the site, then transported on a trailer to the next job, it is allowed by federal regulation.

The diesel fuel delivery service should have both fuels available, so if you are fueling machines used exclusively offroad, you can request your delivery be off-road diesel. If you are storing the fuel on-site, you will need marked tanks that clearly indicate which fuel they contain so the correct fuel type is used in the right equipment.

Some fuel delivery services will want to inspect the fuel tanks if you are storing diesel on site, and will require safety equipment and proper permits are in place before they will deliver fuel for you. Once you are ready for fuel delivery, you can work with the fuel service to set up deliveries on a regular schedule to ensure you have the fuel you need each day.
